The Global Centre for Policy and Strategy and Kenya Space Agency deliberations on unlocking the space sector potential

Brig (Rtd) Robert G Kabage, PhD, EBS, GLOCEPS Executive Director in the company of the GLOCEPS delegation paid a courtesy call on Brigadier Hillary Kipkosgey, Ag Director General, Kenya Space Agency at their offices on October 25th ,2022, at Pitman House, Jakaya Kikwete Road.

The GLOCEPS delegation and the Kenya Space Agency team held productive discussions about potential areas of research collaborations in the space sector. This meeting followed the successful participation of GLOCEPS in KSA Inaugural Kenya Space Expo and Conference in June 2022 (KSEC2022) themed on Leveraging Space Capabilities for National Development held in Nairobi.

The discussions highlighted strategic areas of collaboration maximising on GLOCEPS experience in the research and policy influence space. GLOCEPS strategic focus in areas of security and defence, development and governance align well with the mandate of Kenya Space Agency that among others supports security and international cooperation in the field of space.

The meeting reflected on the KSA’s participation and involvement in space-related activities in Kenya. Some of the discussions centred on KSA outreach and the use of data to support key decisions in areas of food security and climate change adaptation through regional and international cooperation.

The Associate Director, Dr. Kenedy Asembo, PhD, underscored the overall mandate of the Centre, its research and policy influence processes. Brig (Rtd) Dr. Kabage welcomed the idea of GLOCEPS contributing to policy issues impacting the work of the Kenya Space Agency.

Gloceps Ag Executive Director, Dr Ken Asembo held a fruitful engagement with Ifrah A. Farah, CEO Midnimo Women Network, Osama Sulub, Ethiopia MP, Anwar Abdifatah Bashir, ED East African Institute for Peace and Governance and Dr Barkhad Kaariye, ED Ardaa Research Institute. The meeting aimed to explore possible areas of collaboration among the Horn of Africa organizations.
Gloceps non-resident fellow, Amb. Solomon K. Maina and Research fellow, Denis Muniu joined other panelists at the East African Institute for Peace & Governance 1st Annual Peace Conference to discuss a timely topic on foreign meddling, proxy wars and external influence in the Horn of Africa
GLOCEPS team of experts and associates led by Dr. K.O. Asembo, PHD - Ag. Executive Director held a consultative meeting with First and Second Secretary Political Section, Ms. Kobayashi Noriko and Ms. Sumire Kobayashi of the Embassy of Japan at its premises. Meeting discussed possible areas of collaboration between GLOCEPS and Japanese Think tanks.
